![]() Yusuke Urameshi is a hardass teen delinquent that loves skipping classes, smoking cigarettes, disrespecting authority and throwing hands with the toughest gangs in the halls and on the streets. One of my big reading goals for the new year is to read a bunch of my childhood favorite manga for the first time in nearly 20 years to relive the nostalgia and see how they hold up. This was a fun story to read and definitely wouldn't mind continuing to read if I could get my hands on the next volumes! I think in almost all the chapters I've laughed and found myself VERY bummed when the manga ended because I was very engaged in the story. Granted, the way that "caring heart" comes out in situations was pretty hilarious at times! The dog chapter is a great example, though that was also super sweet in its own way. *nervous laughter* (See doesn't that sound weird? LOL) He is extremely loyal and while he may be the "bad boy," he also has a caring heart. I'm not a huge fan of "spiritual" stories in the way YuYu Hakusho is, but Yusuke is quite the character! Pretty much a hardcore delinquent and wasn't super fond of him in the beginning because of that, but after he died (sounds weird to say this) I liked him better. This isn't a story I would usually pick up, but I needed/wanted to read it as part of a video collaboration I'm doing and I was pretty caught off guard by how much I enjoyed it! come on its Togashi-sensei, so you know its top tier manga. He fills this guy with such love for his friends and other people and you will just love this manga. It just makes you love him, his theatrics and what not and Togashi excels at that. I loved this volume and man its so good, I know its filled with heart and just reading it made my day, the author puts so much of himself into it and shows Yusuke trying to redeem himself and help different people and put them to rest like in a good way. and the rest of the story is about his coming back to life challenge and before that he has to complete some trials and along with this girl Botan he goes on journey as a spirit warrior and helps people out like the story with the boy Shota and his dog or the tale of the old man and how he got peace finally or even helping his friends Kuwabara and one day at a month when he can come alive and the dramatics that happen! We follow this guy Yusuke and well he dies in the first ch. Not to mention I know what is to come, and so being more of a fun ghost human stories instead of the battle manga it becomes, I have to say I really enjoyed it. While the plot seems a bit unfocused here as we jump from story to story, it is building up nicely the world and character development for Yusuke. Overall, Togashi was on a roll here in both the art and fun story telling side. Vivid emotions displayed on faces to give off the perfect feeling. It also helps the art still holds up 30 years later. It shows who he is, and even as a tough guy, he still has a heart of gold that made him such a fun character to root for. I personally really enjoyed these sweet short stories of Yusuke helping people. But the story is about him as a spirit trying to do good to see if he's worthy of returning to life. Not a spoiler, it says it is on the back. To my surprise there is actually a few stories in here never in the anime. But one thing I never owned or read was the manga and this year I collected the entire 19 volume set and finally cracked open volume 1. I owned the whole DVD set, Blu Ray set, and statues. Yu Yu Hakusho remains probably my favorite childhood anime and to this day I still love it and have plenty of fond memories. I highly recommend this manga, even if you've never read a manga in your life, I guarantee that this story will draw you in, capture your feels and have you cheering for Yusuke with all your mite. There are so many feel moments in the first few chapters that my eyes watered a few times. ![]() It's a heart string puller that’s for sure. Over all I am happy to finally get around to reading that amazing story. But as the story moves on, and you get deeper into the other volumes, it gets better. The only thing that annoyed me was the art work. That doesn’t bother me I enjoyed those little bits of fluff that wasn't present in the anime. ![]() I love this manga, though the beginning does start out a lot slower, then the anime, there isn’t much difference. There are so many times that the anime is extremely different then the manga, I just had to know. Why now? shouts the masses I don't know, I just got that itch. This is the first time I have gotten around to reading the manga. Thought I have watched the anime, more times than I would like to admit. I have been a fan of this series for a long time, and no matter how many times I watch the anime It will never stop being fascinating. ![]()
